Volunteer

In addition to raising funds for local charities, New Dominion Woman's Club also volunteers with various organizations. Below are some of the organizations that the club has consistanly volunteered with over the years.

Adopt-A Highway Cleanup

NDWC has an Adopt-A Highway location on Westmoreland Road between Chain Bridge Road and Kirby Road. Adopt-A-Highway is an excellent way to give our time to assist in keeping our McLean community clean and beautiful It's a great family event, too. Cleanups occur twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring. If there is a group of at least 15 people, cleanup usually takes only an hour to pick up the litter on Westmoreland Road. Anyone volunteering should come prepared with gloves and garbage bags.

Meals on Wheels

Meals On Wheels is the oldest and largest community-based Senior Nutrition Program in the United States. Their new mission is to end senior hunger by 2020. This volunteer effort is easy, quick and fulfilling. You can even bring along the kids! Pick up meals at George Mason High School between 10:00 am and 10:30 am. It's quick. We deliver to about five homes, sometimes less, sometimes more. We deliver McLean Route #1: It begins in Pimmit Hills and works towards McLean. The time commitment is about 1 - 1 1/2 hours, depending on the number of deliveries. It feels good. Smiles and chats make it worth the time and effort.

The Department of Family Services' Fairfax Area Agency on Aging has implemented a new registration process for those who wish to distribute meals. The online application can be accessed by going to www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dfs/olderadultservices/volunteer-solutions.htm or by connecting directly to the application at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dfs/volunteer/VolReg/VolunteerRegistration.aspx The application needs to be completed prior to delivering the meals. You will receive a name badge in the mail.

For questions about the applications, please contact Michelle Miller with the Department of Family Services' Fairfax Area Agency on Aging at Michelle.Miller@fairfaxcounty.gov or (703) 324-5419 or (703) 324-5419.

Please keep in mind the enhanced procedures recently instituted to safeguard the Meals-on-Wheels participants and plan some time to attend the required training and screening session.
