FROM YOUR CO-PRESIDENTS, KATIE AND DEBBIE

Dear NDWC Friends,

Spring is right around the corner, and we’re ready to Boogie for a Cause! Be sure to grab your tickets now to take advantage of early bird pricing for what promises to be one of the most fun nights of the year. This signature fundraiser brings our community together for music, dancing, and a great cause—and we can’t wait to see you on the dance floor supporting our beneficiaries.

We’re still glowing from the incredible success of Arts Night Out—our best one yet! Thanks to your generosity and enthusiasm, we raised more than $11,000 for our beneficiaries. A huge thank you to event chairs Melissa Snyder and Jane Bohlin, Ways & Means Chair Jennifer Salopek, and committee members Ruth Parr, Kitty Gonzalez, Marie Lee, and Karen Calpin for their creativity and hard work in making the evening such a success. It truly takes a village, and we’re so grateful for this one.

March is also packed with meaningful service and fun social opportunities. On March 14, join us for Stuff the Bus event in support of SHARE—thank you to Marie Lee for organizing this impactful community event. Then on March 16, celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with us at our Monthly Meeting featuring Bunco, a prospective Members welcome, and a Menstrual Product Collection drive. Bring a friend, roll the dice, and help us make a difference. We love seeing our members come together to serve, fundraise, and have fun—and there’s no better month to do all three!

With enthusiasm,
Debbie & Katie
Co-Presidents, NDWC

STUFF-THE-BUS FOR SHARE

 Service Event

NDWC will be working with SHARE to Stuff the Bus and we need your help.

Please consider volunteering to help pack donated groceries so they can be distributed to families in need. All help is welcome! Come for a few minutes or a few hours. Bring your kids and friends. Email Marie to sign up for a volunteer slot. This counts as service hours for teen volunteers!

If you can't volunteer that day, swing by during the drive and contribute some items. Click here for a shopping list.

SHARE provides services to low-income families in our area, including a food bank which is critically important for those with food insecurity.

Saturday, March 14
10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
McLean Giant
1454 Chain Bridge Road

Email Marie for more information or if you have any questions.

Thanks for your help in making this event a success!

CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL VOLUNTEERS
Community volunteer opportunity

The McLean Chocolate Festival is coming up in March and the organizers are looking for volunteers.
The event is at the McLean Community Center on Sunday, March 15 and the volunteer shifts are 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM or 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
If you'd like to help out, click here to contact Michael Arietti with the McLean Rotary Club. He can get you signed up.

HAVE A PROM DRESS OR FORMAL WEAR TO HELP LOCAL TEENS? Community service project

The Junior League of NOVA is having a prom and formal dress collection to help teens who could use some assistance in getting a dress. If you have any dresses to donate, please bring to the March 16 meeting and Carol Brunner will have a bin for collection. She is working with the organizers (and has gotten agreement from them to extend the deadline for donations).
Questions?  Email Carol or click here for the website.

MARCH MEETING- It is Jam Packed

We have a lot going on during our March meeting so you won't want to miss it.

First, this is our spring prospective members meeting so give some thought to friends and neighbors who would be interested in joining our club and helping our community and bring them along.

Second, BUNCO! This game is a fan favorite for veterans and first-timers alike. The fee is $20/person - and if you bring a guest, it's two-for-one. And yes there will be prizes.

Third, we will be collecting menstrual products for She Believes in Me. See below for more info on the organization and what is needed.

Monday, March 16
7:00 PM
McLean Community Center

See you there!

COLLECTION FOR SHE BELIEVES IN ME
 Service event

Fairfax County is leading a collection drive for menstrual products for She Believes in Me, a non-profit that provides support and services to Northern Virginia families in need. NDWC will be supporting this effort by collecting items during our March meeting. Please consider donating new and sealed packages of tampons, pads, liners, and menstrual cups.

Access to menstrual products is a basic necessity yet many individuals in our community struggle to afford them. Period poverty causes unnecessary disruptions in daily life, including school and work. The Menstrual Product Drive aims to bridge the gap by collecting and distributing menstrual hygiene products to local organizations.

Click here for more information about the drive.

If you want to help out, but are not able to attend the March meeting, click here for other drop off locations or email Jane and she can help with a delivery. Note: the drive ends March 31.

WHAT HAS NDWC BEEN UP TO?
A recap of our recent activities

Arts Night Out was amazing! It was a great turn out and we raised more than $11,000 which will go to organizations which help our communities. This event is a lot of work so sending out appreciation to everyone who helped - and extra thanks to our Jane and Melissa who spearheaded this marvelous evening.

Our sold-out mahjong event was a great success. We had dozens of people at all skill levels join us for an afternoon of tiles, drinks, and socializing. AND we raised nearly $1,000! Thanks to Jennifer for getting the event set up and to Dorothy for her help as well.

We had a fantastic November meeting and spent time creating baskets for Second Story for Thanksgiving, clipping some nature photos for the Falls Church-McLean Children's Center and of course tasting some great food from our Fall Bake-Off.  Definitely a fun and productive night.  Plus we got our new t-shirts.

NDWC had a great turn-out for Rise Against Hunger, a service event focused on fighting hunger. Kudos to Katie Hanusik for spearheading this fun and rewarding effort. And check out the new t-shirts!

We had a terrific Prospective Members' Meeting in October! Members and their guests heard from Ayce Ozerdem about stress reduction and self care -- and to learn more about NDWC. It was great to see new faces at our meeting. We hope you'll join us again! This lovely event was hosted by our Benefactor-level corporate sponsor, The Mather. Our special thanks go out to Rachel McLean of The Mather for her warmth and hospitality.

A crew of NDWC members picked up trash along Westmoreland Street in October. Our Adopt-A-Highway program helps to keep our community and neighborhoods cleaner. Monica led the team on this project.

NDWC visited the Falls Church-McLean Children's Center to read to the kids and distribute books from Reading is Fundamental of Northern Virginia (RIF-NOVA) for them to take home. Thanks to Alisa for organizing this event.

Our vineyard voyagers had a beautiful day visiting different wineries in Loudon County. Here's a gorgeous photo of Melissa and Trish Kostelancik at one of the stops. Look out for more social activities for NDWC members coming this spring.
