FROM YOUR CO-PRESIDENTS, KATIE AND DEBBIE

Dear NDWC Friends,
May is shaping up to be a wonderful month for connection, community, and a little inspiration! We’re especially looking forward to our May 18 Monthly Meeting, where author Emily Lampkin will join us to discuss her book Duct Tape and White Lies. It promises to be a fun and engaging evening—perfect to bring a friend along.
A big thank you to everyone who made "Boogie for a Cause" a success. This includes Jennifer Salopek and her committee. This kind of event takes everyone's help from organizing to promoting to attending. Thanks to all of you we raised nearly $9K!
And all month long, you can support NDWC in an easy (and enjoyable!) way. Stop by The Casual Pint in Dunn Loring, where we are the featured beneficiary for its “Tap for Good” program. It’s a great excuse to gather with friends and give back at the same time.
As we look ahead, be sure to mark your calendars for June 4, when we’ll gather at Katie’s home for our members-only June Party. This is always a special evening to celebrate all we’ve accomplished together, enjoy great food and drinks, and kick off the summer season with our NDWC community. We hope to see many of you there!
We’re also beginning to look toward next year and are seeking a few members interested in stepping into leadership roles. If you’ve been thinking about getting more involved, here is your opportunity to shape the future of NDWC. Please reach out to any board member or Kimberly Briggs, our nominating chair, to learn more. We’d love to have you on the team.
With enthusiasm,
 Debbie & Katie
Co-Presidents, NDWC

The Casual Pint in Dunn Loring is having a special event - called Tap4Good - to benefit NDWC. During the month of May, a portion of all sales of the Casual Pint Lager will go to our Club. What a great (and fun!) way to support NDWC.

This program is in place for the whole month of May so check out trivia night, live music and other events or just come by for a pint and some dinner and toast our beneficiaries who will be helped by our fundraising efforts. Click here to see the whole calendar of events.

More good news: The Casual Pint validates 3 hours of parking in the lot next to District Taco. And the nearby Metro parking is free on the weekends.

Special thanks to Jenn Longmeyer-Wood, the proprietor and part-time bar keep at the Pint as well as a long-time member of NDWC. Cheers to you, friend!

MAY MEETING -  Emily Lampkin will be our guest speaker

Emily Lampkin, a McLean mom, entrepreneur and author, will be our guest speaker. She'll be talking about her book, Duct Tape and White Lies: A Women's Practical Guide to Real Life Success. More about Emily below. You won't want to miss her dynamic presentation.

She will also be selling and signing copies of her book.

Also, in support of our beneficiary, Lost Dog and Cat Rescue, we are collecting pet food and treats. Please consider bringing cat or dog treats (no rawhide), or food for kittens, cats, puppies or dogs. Both wet and dry food is needed. We'll be collecting supplies at the May meeting so bring them along.

Falls Church McLean Children's Center
Falls Church McLean Children’s Center is excited to announce the expansion of services to the students we serve. We now offer occupational therapy to our students who need services for their fine motor, gross motor, and sensory processing. The program is now full (6 students) and has a waiting list. This new service is offered free of charge to our families because of generous donors like the New Dominion Women’s Club. We also offer free play therapy and speech and language therapy.
Our Explorers class was chosen from the MCC Artwalk to have artwork displayed at Dulles Airport. The students had a wonderful time at the reception and seeing their artwork displayed!
The classes are busy preparing for our second annual art gallery show on May 21. The artist we are focusing on this year is Salvador Dali.

LEARN MORE ABOUT SECOND STORY

Second Story is one of NDWC's beneficiaries. In addition to financial support, we have provided other assistance, including the Mother's Day baskets that we made during our April meeting. If you are interested in learning more about the organization, it is hosting two open sessions in the coming weeks.

On March 23, NDWC teamed up with RIF Northern Virginia to distribute books at the Falls Church McLean Children's Center. A great success! Shout out to Alisa Schultz for leading the effort.

In March, we participated in a menstrual products drive which was spearheaded by Fairfax County. Thanks to everyone who donated to this effort and hat tip to Jane Bohlin for making this happen - and dropping off our donations. NDWC got a lovely thank you note from Jimmy Bierman, a member of the Board of Supervisors for Fairfax County.

Our Stuff the Bus event in March helped SHARE to restock its shelves. Sending out appreciation to Marie Lee for being our coordinator and leader for this important service event.

Arts Night Out was amazing! It was a great turn out and we raised more than $11,000 which will go to organizations which help our communities. This event is a lot of work so sending out appreciation to everyone who helped - and extra thanks to our Jane and Melissa who spearheaded this marvelous evening.

Our sold-out mahjong event was a great success. We had dozens of people at all skill levels join us for an afternoon of tiles, drinks, and socializing. AND we raised nearly $1,000! Thanks to Jennifer for getting the event set up and to Dorothy for her help as well.

We had a fantastic November meeting and spent time creating baskets for Second Story for Thanksgiving, clipping some nature photos for the Falls Church-McLean Children's Center and of course tasting some great food from our Fall Bake-Off.  Definitely a fun and productive night.  Plus we got our new t-shirts.

We had a terrific Prospective Members' Meeting in October! Members and their guests heard from Ayce Ozerdem about stress reduction and self care -- and to learn more about NDWC. It was great to see new faces at our meeting. We hope you'll join us again! This lovely event was hosted by our Benefactor-level corporate sponsor, The Mather. Our special thanks go out to Rachel McLean of The Mather for her warmth and hospitality.

A crew of NDWC members picked up trash along Westmoreland Street in October. Our Adopt-A-Highway program helps to keep our community and neighborhoods cleaner. Monica led the team on this project.

NDWC visited the Falls Church-McLean Children's Center to read to the kids and distribute books from Reading is Fundamental of Northern Virginia (RIF-NOVA) for them to take home. Thanks to Alisa for organizing this event.

Our vineyard voyagers had a beautiful day visiting different wineries in Loudon County. Here's a gorgeous photo of Melissa and Trish Kostelancik at one of the stops. Look out for more social activities for NDWC members coming this spring.
