The New Dominion Women’s Club (NDWC) serves as a community partner with the McLean Project of the Arts (MPA) to sponsor and coordinate the Children’s ArtWalk as part of the annual MPAartfest. There are more than 100 budding artists featured in the open-air gallery walk that typically ranges from grades from pre-K thru middle school. Artwork includes a variety of art mediums such as hand rubbings, colorful wooden tile mosaics, a fish tank, prints, paintings, and murals. NDWC works hand-in-hand with community educators and MPA and provides volunteers to create and stage the exhibit. “The Children’s ArtWalk is spectacular. It’s a community-building event that brings people together. If you come to my office you will see some murals from past MPAartfest events that I have on display,” said John Foust, Drainesville District Supervisor.
Volunteers Needed for MPAartfest and for Children's ArtWalk!
Sunday, October 6th
Early fall means warm days, cool evenings, and the annual Children's ArtWalk! This event is part of MPAartfest and NDWC sponsors the display of amazing artwork of our local Pablo Picasso's and Frida Kahlo's in waiting!
Over 15 elementary schools (and a few preschools) in the McLean area provide student art for this event. NDWC collects the items from each school, prepares the items for display, and sets up (and takes down) the display area at McLean Central Park. We will collect the art later this month, with preparing for display happening over two evenings before MPAartfest. We install the art on October 5, take down on October 7, and return the art to the schools.
NDWC also staffs a welcome table at the event itself. This is a great way to connect with current and prospective members and to underscore our connections with and positive impact on the community. And you cannot beat our location - near the bandstand with a view of all that is going on at the festival!
Choose a task to fit your availability. We're aiming for 100% club participation, and we promise there's something that will work with your schedule. And if you have a tween or teen in need of some community service hours... they can volunteer, too!
